I have entered and completed a few10k fun runs, 4 half marathons and two full marathon's one of them the Athens Classic Marathon in 2008. I went there with The Joints in Motion Team from Canada in support of Arthritis research.. While I've had loads of fun participating in every event my times reflect just that...fun! I feel like I'm ready to take my running to another level as I am tired of standing around listening to everyone talk about their great times hoping no one asks me. My best time for a half marathon is 2:29:22 and for a full 5:43:44 (hurt my knee part way through so I walk/jogged the last 12 miles). Like I said, no great times but I had loads of fun! Athen's time was far worse 6:15:38 again, bad knee walked much of the race after mile 9. The strange thing is I never have knee trouble during training. Perhaps it's amental thing to keep me from challenging myself.
Short-Term Running Goals:
I am signed up to run the Fargo, ND full marathon this coming May 22. If I can finish one minute under 5 hours and finish healthy I'll be happy. Beyond that I am training for a Nepal/Everest Base Camp Trek this October for which I'm told I'd best be in top notch shape for! I want to get my half marathon time up around the 2:10 - 2:15 mark for late winter (Feb/11) for the Hypothermic Half Marathon. Following that I plan on entering the Great Wall Marathon in China for May/11. I'm not sure what kind of time to shoot for on that one just yet.
Long-Term Running Goals:
In my lifetime I want to complete half and/or full marathons in as many places as health, time and money will allow. I want to say "I qualified for Boston" at least once and when I can say that I want to go there and run it! I want to re-run Athens and finish well under 5 hours! I want to continue teaching running clinics for beginners so they too can fall in love with the sport as I have and last but not least Iwant to keep it fun! I have no intention of becomming a running snob :)
Personal:
I'm married to a fabulous man who encourages me to continue running even though it takes me away from him a lot! He has started a few times but hasn't really caught the bug. I have no kids but have elderly parents who have suffered with health issues over the past several years and I know the running got all of us through the times we all thought "this is it" we're going to lose mom or dad. My friendships (running and non) are my life's greatest gifts (next to my husband). They've changed over the years as most relationships do but I wouldn't change any of them for a second. Now, I look forward to making some new friends here!
